A cartographic animation is a hands-on animated map. Usually found online, you can usually click or roll your mouse over the map to animate the specific item.

This choropleth map shows Nebraska County and it's deaths by certain diseases (classed and unclassed data) in 1996. Scrolling over the key shows a change in different types of diseases on the map.
